Weddings, weddings, weddings! Flowers for this occasion have been designed for centuries, capturing the feeling and celebratory nature of the day. It’s an occasion that ALWAYS calls for flowers…….we’re ready and willing to satisfy that need!
Today’s styles are as varied as the bride’s themselves: Shabby Chic (burlap, mason jars, hydrangea), Bohemian (a mixture of lush, drippy florals with elegantly natural accents that set each bride apart), to different types of contemporary styling from Asian to ultra modern. It’s exciting to meet with a bride and help complete the vision of this special day…..so much is available to view and create!
Step by step we’ll review different ways to elevate the quality of your wedding creations for fun AND profit. Basic design skills are revealed in my book E-Z Floral Design available on My Books page while my wedding posts will go into much more detail for different arrangements (bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres, alter designs, table arrangements, archways) that I discuss.
So get ready for a fun ride, whether you are doing flowers for your daughter’s wedding or want to start your home flower business……this is where your floral dreams will come true!
Creating sympathy designs is one of my favorite parts of the floral world. I look at these floral arrangements as a new adventure, allowing me to be part of someone’s journey to the next stage. It’s so gratifying when I get to work with a family to design creative flowers that represent their loved one’s wonderful life, interpreting that life with flowers.
Learning proper mechanics and styles takes some practice, and I’ll be teaching you these skills through various posts. The mechanics (as with any part of flower arranging) is as important as using the freshest flowers. Some of your sympathy designs will be larger (constructed on easel stands), and bit awkward to move around. The better they are put together, the easier these arrangements will be to deliver, and the happier your customers or family will be.
Along with my educational posts, I have a great book for you to learn how to design sympathy arrangements from beginning construction to finished creation. The book is titled Sympathy Floral Designs: A Professional “How To” and is available on my My Books page. Once you learn the different techniques and proper mechanics of arranging these designs, you’ll be amazed at the beautiful arrangements your hands will create. Now let’s get that creative mojo goin’!
Everyday I’m amazed at the beauty and wonder of the plant world. From outdoors to inside our homes, they provide us with clean air and a calming environment. Plants have been a passion of mine ever since I was a young boy. My first job was at 11 years old taking care of our neighbors yard as well as taking care of our own yard. My love of plants has multiplied from that time on. Being an assistant grower at a wholesale growing nursery in the mid 70’s, SandyLand Nursery, I learned so much about plants in general: how to propagate them, grow, replant into larger containers, trim, stake and support, about anything you can imagine. And that information I’m happy to pass on so you can create and grow plants for your environment.
I never want to read or hear these words from you: “I kill everything….I don’t have a green thumb”! With a little guidance and plant education, all your doubts will be cast aside. With the right soil, light, watering, fertilizer anyone can grow beautiful plants. So we’ll explore this design avenue with explanations that will be easy to understand so you can let go of any “plant” fear you might have.
If you’re a pro at this, then hopefully I can share some design insight to construct valuable plant combinations that will give you or your clients much more beautiful specimens to enjoy. And if not, no worries. This is where I teach and share so you can get those hands dirty and play for fun AND profit!
I’ll reveal a variety of plant information for you to learn, where to buy plants on the cheap, the best soil brands to purchase, how to plant properly for the planting to be eye pleasing, decorative additions like bamboo and rocks to add so your designs can be styled to your liking or for the proper décor.
Whether they are patio, interior or garden plantings, we’ll share lots of ideas so you can create your world into a beautiful plant paradise to enjoy for years to come……
