This fabulous green is one I cherish and include in my floral designs whenever possible. Sturdy and long lasting with the ability to be swirled, trimmed, spray painted and left out of water, this member of the asparagus family grows everywhere in warm weather regions. Foxtail Asparagus (named obviously because it does mimic a fox’s tail) is a favorite of mine to cut wherever I see it….I even break if off with my fingers if I don’t have the trimmers with me! Woow, love getting my floral mojo revved! Changing up a 6 rose design fascinates the heck out of me, motivates my inner soul. Who knows what we can come up with? Let’s all inspire each other while we keep the world more and more beautiful with our floral designs. Educate, motivate and definitely create my friend!
Rose arrangements are still one of my favorites, and loved across the globe. There’s just something about this flower that most see as upscale or valuable, while having beauty that they also see in their gardens. This rose design is airy with grace and creative touches that give the arrangement interest for the viewer. The tight lily stems will open to reveal a beautiful orange tone to blend with the light peach roses, both purchased from our local farmer’s market. Always a great deal and just happen to be from local grower Eufloria Flowers and Skyline Flowers. Continue reading Simple Rose Design
Fall is that time of year when we start getting motivated to decorate and create magic in our homes. Summer is gone, the creative mojo is kicking in, excitement is building. This short video shows how your everyday accessories mix right in with some holiday fresh and dried goods that you pick up at your favorite craft store, blending with items your precious yard (or your friendly neighbor) has that is begging you to gather up. It is exciting to take what you already have and give it a new spin. Try different things; if they don’t look right, rework the setting till your satisfied. Always remember the world wasn’t built in a day, so have fun creating!
This flower arrangement is one of my favs. The flow and architectural elements capture your eye, taking it up, around and through the design. Did I have this planned? No way! My little pee brain can plan, but most of the time I take my product and put it together the way it happens. Continue reading Quirky Cool
Well, my friend, have I got some great places for you to shop! We are so lucky to live in an age where the retail environment has so many outlets that have what we need to create awesome flower arrangements. When I changed from traditional retail to being a studio florist, I was amazed at how much affordable product was right in my own backyard. When I see a good deal, I grab up the item so I’ve got plenty of things in stock to work with. From containers to birds and butterflies, anything you could imagine is available at our local stores. I know the economy over the last few years has allowed for many of these retail stores to pop up in every city, and it’s to our advantage. What the heck, if it makes our flower arranging life easier, why not take advantage of it? All these venues sell retail, adding sales tax to the total, depending on the county and state you live in. Another post will concentrate on wholesale (no tax charged and you will need a resale license to purchase from them) outlets to purchase from. Following is a list of my favorite retail stores with some ideas what can be purchased at each (this will save you some time when you go out shopping for all the great supplies to create your arrangements with). The saying “the right tool for the right job” is so true! There is no question that it’s a must to have the correct tools to create flower arrangements and all types of designs. You don’t have to spend a fortune to have quality tools, just the knowledge of how to use them properly for different design elements. Continue reading Your Tools For Floral Success
Creating sympathy designs is one of my favorite parts of the floral world. I look at these floral arrangements as a new adventure, allowing me to be part of someone’s journey to the next stage. It’s so gratifying when I get to work with a family to design creative flowers that represent their loved one’s wonderful life, interpreting that life with flowers.
Learning proper mechanics and styles takes some practice, and I’ll be teaching you these skills through various posts. The mechanics (as with any part of flower arranging) is as important as using the freshest flowers. Some of your sympathy designs will be larger (constructed on easel stands), and bit awkward to move around. The better they are put together, the easier these arrangements will be to deliver, and the happier your customers or family will be.
Along with my educational posts, I have a great book for you to learn how to design sympathy arrangements from beginning construction to finished creation. The book is titled Sympathy Floral Designs: A Professional “How To” and is available on my My Books page. Once you learn the different techniques and proper mechanics of arranging these designs, you’ll be amazed at the beautiful arrangements your hands will create. Now let’s get that creative mojo goin’!
